Indomethacin is likely to develop stomachache if not taken with food or milk. As the drug has to be released slowly into the body, it should not be broken, crushed or chewed. Indocin should have to be swallowed whole, which helps in the slow absorption of the drug into the body.

A person is not advised Indocin just before or after a heart surgery. The drug is also known to increase the risk of perforation or bleeding, which could be fatal. This risk is mainly seen in older people. In case of any stomach pain or bloody tools, or cough mixed with blood or any other uneasiness, a person should not delay in consulting the doctor. A delay will cost a person severely.
Alcohol should be completely avoided while using indomethacin. This is because alcohol increases the risk of bleeding in stomach. It is also advised not to buy any cold, pain or allergy medicines from the drug stores without the doctor’s prescription. In any case you are bound to take such medicines, better see that the medicines that you buy do not contain ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen and ketoprofen.

The doctor may either change the level of dosage or recommend some other drug if a person has a history of clots, stroke or heart attack, high blood pressure, bleeding, stomach ulcers, seizure, kidney problems, liver issues, polyps and asthma.
The doctors will not be instructing indomethacin during the period of pregnancy. Indocin drugs can lead to many complications in an unborn child. Moreover, the medicine is also not prescribed for women who nurse their newborns. It should also be noted that drug Indocin is not prescribed for children who are below 14 years of age.
